Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 1963

Italy was represented by Emilio Pericoli, with the song '"Uno per tutte", at the 1963 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 23 March in London. Broadcaster RAI chose the winning song from the 1963 Sanremo Music Festival as their Eurovision entry: the song had been performed twice at Sanremo and Pericoli was chosen over Tony Renis as the performer.
In 1962 Pericoli had enjoyed a top 10 hit in the United States and a top 30 hit in the United Kingdom with a recording of Italy's 1961 Eurovision entry "Al di là", which had been sung in the contest by Betty Curtis.

On the night of the final Pericoli performed 6th in the running order, following Norway and preceding Finland. The song was less intense and dramatic in style than most previous Italian entries, and Pericoli gave a relaxed and engaging performance. Each national jury awarded 5-4-3-2-1 to its top five songs, and at the close of the voting "Uno per tutte" had received 37 points (including three maximum 5s from Denmark, Monaco and Switzerland), placing Italy third of the 16 entries and matching their highest Eurovision finish to date. The Italian jury awarded its 5 points to Switzerland.〔(ESC History - Italy 1963 )〕
